One of our goals here at W Dental Group is to help all of our patients in their overall wellness goals (after all W Dental Group is where wellness begins with a smile ☺︎).

So, every Friday we’ll be posting a weekend reading message with all kinds of different tips, tricks and articles on a variety of subjects that we find interesting and helpful in all aspects of life, not just dental.  Our hope is that you will find these posts useful in your life and share them with others to help spread smiles.

Tell us if this sounds familiar…

You wake up in the morning (or are woken up by a pair of little eyes staring at you), rush to get yourself and the kids ready for work/school/daycare, battle traffic to drop the kids off on time, battle traffic some more to make it to work on time, work all day, battle traffic to pick up the kids from school/daycare (and hope not to get charged for being late), battle more traffic to get home, cook dinner, monitor homework, try to clean most of the dishes, kids bath time, get kids ready for bed time, brush kids teeth time, epic battle over which book to read before lights out time, and then finally if there’s any time left you get to maybe have some alone time or spend time with your spouse…

Somewhere in this crazy whirlwind we call parenthood you’re supposed to also find time to teach your kids how to function as a human being.  If you are a parent you probably already know how insanely difficult it can be at times to get your child to do something, especially if it’s good for them (eat your vegetables, brush your teeth…).  You probably also know how important it is to teach and establish healthy habits.

February is National Children’s Dental Health Month, so this week we want to focus on children’s dental health and fun or innovative ways to teach your child about taking care of their teeth.  Here are some articles to help you do this with the every day battles, constant surprises, and complete joy of raising a child.

Here’s to parenthood.

5 Ways to Celebrate Children’s Dental Health Month At Home

Teaching your children about healthy dental habits can be challenging, especially if you’re a new parent or at a loss for ideas.  Colgate understands this and has an entire website devoted to making dental health and healthy hygiene habits fun for kids.  In this article they give 5 easy ways to highlight children’s dental health month at home and teach your children.

Cause & Effect of Cavities

Sometimes kids just need to see it or do it before they learn it.  This short video from eHow Health shows you a simple and fun experiment you can do with your children to learn the negative effects of sodas and sweet drinks on teeth.  Check it out!

National Children’s Dental Health Month: A Brief History

National blood donor month, heart disease awareness month, national children’s dental health month… Every month you hear about a different awareness observance, but do you really know how or why it began?  This article from The American Dental Association (ADA) shares a brief history of Children’s Dental Health Month.  As a sponsor of CDHM awareness they also offer free online resources to help teach children about taking care of their teeth.

No More Nasties!

With a little imagination, brushing can be fun! In this animated video, also from Colgate, a child teaches proper brushing tips while fending off the Invisible Nasties living in her smile.
